Bill Cosby spoke to the black community in New Orleans. Alas, Cosby does not know who he is talking to. He is saying "you" did this and "you" did that and he is wrong. Bill has no audience at all. The good people didn't do it and the bad people don't care. So who could he be talking to?
Bill has to say: you have people who share your skin color and and your neighborhoods and your speech and your streets and they are doing terrible things. They are murdering, they are dealing drugs, they are impregnating our daughters. These people look like you and me. And some of you here, today: which side are you on? Really. Did you do any of these things? Were you too silent? Too frightened? Did you reach out to your people?
But we look closely and we can see these people and we must say "you cannot do this, you may not do this, you will not do this, not many times, not even once. Not even once. We will turn you into our police, we will shun you, you will have no place among us. Change, now, and you will have a life among us, in the United States, in the world. Stay as you are and you will have no place. You cannot stay here. If you will not be one of us, you will not be permitted to be among us."
And all of us must say "I will not do these things. I am an American, I am free, I am black and I have things to do, and by god, I love my children and I am blessed."
